Most of our ingredients are organic and our business is certified by the Organic Food Federation
We buy our milk from a London based diary that buys in bulk organic raw milk from farms just outside London. It is pasteurised and homogenised and organic certified by the Soil Association. It’s great that it’s so local to us. We used to buy directly from a farm in Bedford, but it was taken over by our current supplier.
We use organic black chia seeds – they come from Argentina. Yes it’s a long way to come. But hopefully this will benefit producers in Argentina to make it worthwhile for us all.
Our fruit purees are not organic… but something we are considering switching to. The fruit mainly comes from Germany. It would be great to have British fruit… depends on the weather! Interestingly the fruit purees are just not sweet enough to add by themselves to our kefir smoothies!
We chose to use agave to sweeten our kefir because it has a low Glycemic Index rating, which means unlike other forms of fructose – you don’t get a sugar rush when you consume agave, but a more slow release of energy!
Our Agave Nectar is also organic – it comes from Mexico where is grows abundantly from the same plant from which Tequila is made!
Our Kefir grains are totally organic. We grow them lovingly, from tiny pieces to champion grains. We create the best conditions for them to ferment and transform all the organic milk into fermented milk teeming in billions of bacteria, of different strains and species. All grains have descended from the original grains Deborah was given back in April 2006!
